We all know that life does not always go according to plan. When it comes to unplanned pregnancy, advance provision is one way for people to be ready for life’s uncertainties. Advance provision is the option to access abortion pills before you are pregnant so you can use them more quickly if you do become pregnant in the future and decide you want a medication abortion.

Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, access to abortion care in the U.S. is no longer federally protected. Choix offers advance provision of medication abortion pills to help make accessing comprehensive abortion care a little less complicated.

Keep reading to learn more about how advance provision through Choix works so that you can get abortion pills before you need them.

How to access Advance Provision through Choix

Choix is a new kind of abortion clinic, designed with you in mind. We understand accessing affordable, convenient, confidential, and supportive abortion care is not easy in today’s complex healthcare landscape. That’s why we turned to telehealth.

As a telehealth clinic, we are just a text away. Our virtual platform brings our abortion clinic to you, wherever you are in the states that we serve.

You can create your new account from our secure, HIPAA-compliant patient portal. We will then have you complete a health questionnaire via this portal. One of our experienced abortion care providers (nurse practitioners and nurse-midwives) can usually get back to you the same business day, but sometimes it may take up to 24-48 hours for us to reply.

After reviewing your health questionnaire and confirming that the abortion medications (mifepristone and misoprostol) are safe for you to use based on your medical history, your Choix provider will review the advance provision consent forms with you. We use these forms to help educate our patients so that they can give fully-informed consent for medication abortion. Once you have paid for the medication abortion consultation with a Choix provider, our partner mail-order pharmacy will mail the abortion pills to you within the next couple of days. Shipping times may vary but your medication abortion pills should arrive in an unmarked, trackable package through FedEx within 3-5 business days. You also have the option of 1-2 day expedited shipping for an additional $25.

Planning Ahead Allows More Time

Advance provision of abortion pills gives you a choice – the option to decide, on your own, when you need a medication abortion. This is what people want. National research shows as many as 44% of people surveyed want to have abortion pills on hand in case they get pregnant. Not surprisingly, the people who would have the hardest time accessing abortion care were most likely to want pills in advance.

At Choix, we understand that mistakes happen, birth control is not perfect, and circumstances change. Advance provision gives people an extra insurance policy by having abortion pills on hand before you even need them. We think it is your right to have that peace of mind in today’s chaotic and complex world.

Get Answers Faster Than Waiting for an Initial Clinic Appointment

Our goal is to keep the time from when you complete your initial questionnaire to receiving the advance provision abortion medications to about 3 business days. This is significantly faster than the time it would take most people to be seen in person at a clinic in most parts of the U.S. The reality is that post-Roe v. Wade, more people now live farther away from abortion clinics. What clinics are still in business, now have longer waiting times for appointments. We know that the further you have to travel for abortion care, the greater the out-of-pocket costs, the toll on your mental health, and the longer you have to wait to have your abortion. Telehealth abortion care and advance provision give you convenience, time, and options – without having to take time off from work, arrange for childcare, or find transportation. Choix can help you faster and with fewer headaches.

We’re Here For You with Supportive Advance Provision

The foundation of the Choix Advance Provision care model is our supportive relationship with our patients. That relationship lasts through your entire medication abortion process.

Once you know you are pregnant and decide you want to use the abortion pills, we recommend you contact Choix. Everyone who uses the Advance Provision service receives access to Choix’s patient portal and will be asked to contact Choix when they are ready to use their abortion pills. Ongoing confidential, supportive, and expert abortion care from Choix providers is included in the original price you paid for your prescription– there is no additional charge beyond the initial fee for Advance Provision – offered $289 for everything you need (including shipping).

You can quickly start a new medical intake from Choix’s website by logging back into the Choix portal to start the medication abortion questionnaire. A Choix clinician will then review your medical history for any changes to ensure it is still safe for you to take the medications. We will also review your clinical information, such as your last menstrual period, any bleeding or other irregular symptoms (as could happen if your pregnancy is not in the right place), and any indications that you may need an ultrasound. Your Choix clinician will contact you via text within one business day to confirm the information you entered for this new intake.

The Choix team will be on hand to help you along the way. We agree with the World Health Organization that comprehensive abortion care includes providing information, abortion management, and post-abortion care. Advance provision works best when the clinicians who prescribe abortion pills in advance provide their patients with information about how to take the pills and offer clinical support and follow-up care if patients later choose to use them. That is why our medical staff is easily accessible via phone, text, or email to help you pre- and post-abortion. We also support you after your medication abortion is complete and can refer you to post-abortion support resources. You can read the abortion care stories of other Choix patients to learn more about the Choix experience and community. Our clinicians can even help you choose your next birth control method, mailed right to your home if you want to start right after you finish your medication abortion.

A Two-Year Insurance Policy for Your Piece of Mind

Mifepristone and misoprostol tablets generally have a shelf-life of around 2-3 years. Check the expiration date when you receive medications as well as prior to use. Just because you have the pills does not mean you ever need to use them. But given the ever-changing landscape of abortion care in the United States, we at Choix support your choice to keep your options open. We can offer you the opportunity to have abortion pills on hand before you need them – simply start the questionnaire to begin.

If you want this peace of mind and want to proceed, then just begin the questionnaire here and within a matter of minutes, your request will be in our queue. If something else is on your mind, feel free to text us at 858-203-0531 or email us support@choixhealth.com.
